From Heartbreak to Hope Name Quilt

This is a section from the third 6" wide by 7' long name quilts I'm quilting for the AAQI new exhibit Alzheimer's Illustrated: From Heartbreak to Hope. The three I've quilted will hang with 180 others, each bearing the names of 55 people who have or have died with Alzheimer's or a related dementia. Will mail Monday to Kathy Kennedy-Dennis in Houston for finishing!

One of the nicest parts of working with the AAQI is getting to know (even if it's just virtually) so many wonderful women from all over the country. The AAQI is totally volunteer-driven and it takes a lot of us! Quilters are wonderful people, in general, and really pitch in when someone needs help. Especially if they can do it using fabric, needle and thread! So, if you've ever wanted to make 9x12 quilts, you now have a purpose for them! Read Make a Donation Quilt.

  1. The AAQI is so grateful for your work on its behalf, Diane. In addition to quilting THREE Name Quilts I would be remiss not to mention the other things you do for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative. (If I can remember them all!) So for everyone who doesn't know the extent to which Diane is dedicated to fighting Alzheimer's let me tell you: Diane is our auctioneer, manually updating the AAQI monthly auctions; she keeps track of the $1,000 Challenge web pages; she creates the tags that go on the 1,000 quilts we take to International Quilt Festival each year; she moves quilts around from the Quilts For Sale page over to the Sold page and keeps that count accurate; she has made and donated 57 Priority: Alzheimer's Quilts raising more than $3,000 with her needle and thread; she keeps the Honor Roll rolling; she uploads photographs for our news releases, and she is my "go-to gal" for just about everything else! Quilters are, indeed, wonderful people. And Diane is one of the most wonderful-est. Huge hugs, friend, for all you do for the cause.

  3. Hi Diane,
I have just finished putting the bindings on "hope" and "love". I am excited that "faith" can now join them. Thank you so much for doing these three Name Quilts and for all that you do for the AAQI!
